Supervisor Perez Allocates Funds to Replace Chiriaco Summit Fire Hydrants
April 28, 2026
RIVERSIDE – Today, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved Supervisor V. Manuel Perez’s proposal to allocate $14,000 to assist the Chiriaco Summit Water District with replacement fire hydrants.
The Chiriaco Summit Water District is a small special district that serves the community of Chiriaco Summit, located off Interstate 10 east of the Coachella Valley. Supervisor Perez identified funding from revenues that the county receives for solar projects in eastern Riverside County to get replacements for two failing fire hydrants without impacting the water district’s limited resources.
Margit Chiriaco, chair of the Chiriaco Summit Water District, states, “We are one of the smallest water districts in California and we were formed in the year 2000, one of the last districts to be formed. We are so thrilled the county is able to help the district because we have such a low amount of connections and it would be hard to build up funds for this. This is critical for fire protection and anything that occurs on Interstate 10 and we are happy to provide the water for emergency vehicles.”
