Supervisor V. Manuel Perez Stands with Local Policymakers in the Coachella Valley by Voting No on AQMD Rules 1111 and 1121

On Friday, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez joined his colleagues on the South Coast Air Quality Management District governing board in voting down proposed rules that would have phased out natural gas water heaters and appliances across a four-county area of Southern California that covers all or portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Supervisor Perez offers the following statement:

“While I remain firmly committed to reducing emissions and protecting air quality in the South Coast region, Rules 1111 and 1121 would have imposed a financial burden on homeowners and small businesses. For these reasons, I voted no on the proposed rules.

“I look forward to working with stakeholders to improve the air quality in the South Coast air basin. But we must do this through a thoughtful, data-driven approach that balances environmental goals with economic and practical realities.”

Supervisor Perez noted at the meeting that there was no support for new rules from city councils in the Coachella Valley and cited electrical grid concerns.
