RIVERSIDE – The Riverside County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution today calling on the federal government to protect Medicaid funding from budget cuts.
The resolution, brought to the Board by Supervisors V. Manuel Perez and Jose Medina, mentions the federal entitlement program, which in California is known as Medi-Cal, covers over 1 million of the county’s residents. Supervisors are concerned that drastic cuts could reduce access to essential healthcare for low-income individuals, children, seniors and people with disabilities.
“We are a safety net and we are the fastest growing county in the State of California and in the nation, behind Maricopa County,” said Supervisor Perez. “As a safety net, there are two areas that are very critical for the county, public health and public safety, and if either of them get cut, the other one hurts.”
