Whitewater Community Clean-Up Set for Saturday

Tue, 26/09/2023 - 05:00

WHITEWATER – Residents within the community of Whitewater will have the opportunity to dispose of household waste and bulky items for free from 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday, September 30.

Two bins will be placed on the dirt section off Haugen-Lehmann Way and Tamarack Road in Whitewater. Residents can drop off items such as household waste and bulky items such as furniture until noon or when bins are full.

Tires, e-waste, appliances and hazardous materials such as chemicals, cleaners, oil and paint will not be accepted in the bins. A full list is provided below.

The clean-up event is held in conjunction with the annual Cabazon Community Clean-Up in the community of Cabazon. Residents of Whitewater can take items either to the bins off Haugen-Lehmann or take items to the James A. Venable Community Center in Cabazon, 50390 Carmen Avenue. The Cabazon location will accept tires, e-waste and appliances.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, who represents Whitewater since it became part of the Fourth District earlier this year, provided the bins in cooperation with CR&R, to continue this service that Whitewater has had each year in conjunction with the Cabazon clean-up.

“This is a clean-up where community members volunteer and assist in loading items into bins and staying on site to monitor the bins,” said Supervisor Perez. “I appreciate the volunteers from Whitewater who are stepping up to assist their fellow community members. This is important to continue and provide a service to the community, to dispose of items that have accumulated and keep our community clean.”

The full list of non-accepted items for disposal in the bins in Whitewater are: tires, e-waste, batteries, pool chemicals, transmission and brake fluids, herbicides, fertilizers, gasoline, motor parts, fluorescent light bulbs, paint, antifreeze, engines, motor oil, tub and tile cleaners and bleach. Tires and e-waste can be taken that day to the Cabazon clean-up location, and household hazardous waste items can be taken to the Waste Resources Department’s permanent collection site in Palm Springs, 1100 Vella Rd. on non-holiday weekend Saturdays.

The Whitewater Community Clean-Up is made possible with the support of Supervisor Perez and CR&R, in cooperation with the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources and the Whitewater community. The Cabazon Community Clean-Up is hosted by the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources and CR&R, with the support of Riverside County Fifth District Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez, who represents Cabazon.
