The EIFD is an important component of ECV Próspera, an initiative by Riverside County in partnership with nonprofit organization Alianza Coachella Valley, to bring infrastructure and improve the quality of life in the communities of the eastern Coachella Valley.

The first community meetings about the EIFD were held in May. This meeting, as a Public Financing Authority meeting, is a board meeting of the governing body that will oversee the EIFD. Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and two other Riverside County Supervisors and two appointed community members will join tomorrow’s meeting as the five members of the Authority.

“ECV Próspera, ECV Prosper, is a new initiative to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life in the eastern Coachella Valley,” said Supervisor Perez. “The EIFD will help to bring in improvements to water, sewer, electricity, telecommunications, housing and facilities to the eastern Coachella Valley, including the communities of Mecca, North Shore, Oasis, Thermal and Vista Santa Rosa. The EIFD will not result in any new property taxes or increases in existing property taxes. Like other EIFDs across the state, it will get its funding by setting aside a portion of future property tax revenues gathered from growth in the area, not from increases to taxes. ECV Prospera’s EIFD ensures that a portion of area property tax dollars are kept and used locally for investments leading to future growth, and we need the public support to make it happen.”

Information about EIFDs, a map of the proposed EIFD boundaries, and meeting information is available on the county’s Web site, http://rivcoed.org/eastern-coachella-valley.
