Presentation to Provide Information on New Transportation Service for Veterans at Veterans Village in Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY – On Thursday, SunLine Transit Agency representatives will give a presentation at Veterans Village of Cathedral City to go over a new transportation option called SunRide that’s now available for Veterans Village veterans and their families.
The SunLine Transit Agency Board of Directors recently approved the expansion of SunRide service in Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs, which went into effect in May. Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, a board member for SunLine Transit Agency, requested that SunLine make a presentation to let veterans residing at Veterans Village know about the service, as a new option that was not available before.
Supervisor Perez arranged the presentation with SunLine and Veterans Village, which made its community room available and reached out to the veterans residing there to invite them to attend. SunLine will provide brochures about SunRide, give an overview of how the service works and answer questions.
Veterans Village is a newly opened community of 60 apartments for veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Veterans Village was constructed by Urban Housing Communities with the in collaboration and partnership with Riverside County, the City of Cathedral City, the VA, the State of California and Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, and was opened last November the day before Veterans Day. One of the key features of this community is having on-site social workers, case managers and wraparound services providing support in the veterans’ lives, and SunRide is the latest service that can be a community resource to the veterans.
“It was a moving day last year when veterans received the keys to their new place in Veterans Village of Cathedral City, an amazing and beautiful community of veterans,” said Supervisor Perez. “I am very proud that SunLine Transit Agency has put Veterans Village into the expanded service area for SunRide. This is something beneficial, especially for veterans who may have limited or no access to transportation. This presentation will give veterans an overview of SunRide so they know about it and how to access it.”

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez represents the Fourth Supervisorial District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. The largest district in the county by geography, the 4th District covers eastern Riverside County, from Whitewater, stretching across the entire Coachella Valley south to the Salton Sea, up Highway 74 to Idyllwild and the mountain communities, and heading east of the Coachella Valley to Blythe and the Colorado River.
