Supervisor Perez Starts New Term, Emphasizing Housing and Infrastructure

RIVERSIDE – Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez was sworn into a new four-year term of office this morning at the first county Board meeting of the year. He stated that one of his goals for the coming year is to build out housing and infrastructure for residents to have better living conditions and access to housing.

In steps along those lines, today, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved a measure by Supervisor Perez to facilitate getting Polanco parks up to code to create housing opportunities, and accepted an additional $5.5 million for the Palm Springs Navigation Campus, which will provide 80 housing units and wraparound services as a comprehensive approach to address homelessness.

Supervisor Perez echoed that the priorities of the county this year include economic development, public safety and health and human services. Supervisor Perez also added: “The one area that I want to concentrate on is that we ensure we build out affordable housing and ensure ultimately that we have the infrastructure so that people, and no matter who they are or where they come from, have clean drinking water and have access to housing. That is the struggle that I face every single day in the east end of the Coachella Valley, Oasis, North Shore, Mecca. The infrastructure needs are huge, they are enormous, but I have the team to make it happen.”

Supervisor Perez begins a new four-year term representing the county’s Fourth District, after running unopposed for re‑election in June 2022. Pat Cooper, Supervisor Perez’s Deputy Chief of Staff, administered the oath of office.

With county redistricting, the county’s Fourth District has expanded to include more communities now represented by Supervisor Perez. These communities include Whitewater, Snow Creek, Windy Point, North Palm Springs, as well as Idyllwild and the mountain communities, Pine Cove, Fern Valley, Mountain Center and Pinyon Pines.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez represents the Fourth Supervisorial District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. The largest district in the county by geography, the 4^th District covers eastern Riverside County, from Whitewater, stretching across the entire Coachella Valley south to the Salton Sea, up Highway 74 to Idyllwild and the mountain communities, and heading east of the Coachella Valley to Blythe and the Colorado River.
