BLYTHE – In partnership with the Palo Verde Unified School District, the City of Blythe, and the Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency, Riverside County Public Health is bringing a mobile vaccine clinic to Blythe this week to provide the vaccine for COVID-19 to up to 1,500 eligible residents of the Blythe community.

The vaccine clinic will be held Wednesday, February 3 and Thursday, February 4 at Palo Verde High School in Blythe, 667 North Lovekin Blvd. This vaccine clinic is only for Palo Verde Valley residents and employees. Proof will be required of residence or employment to receive a vaccine.

As a special clinic, residents will need to register through https://www.pvusd.us. The registration link is active now.

“The vaccine is a turning point in this devastating pandemic, offering a very high level of protection for COVID-19,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “While it will take time to make the vaccine available to all in our county, I’m very pleased we will have a mobile vaccine clinic in Blythe this week to ensure vulnerable, at-risk senior citizens and workers in our Blythe community have access to this life-saving vaccination. In addition, I continue to work alongside our county departments with local providers to increase the number of vaccines for Blythe.”

Residents who are eligible for the vaccine include: senior citizens 65 years and above, medical and community health workers, mortuary workers, paramedics and EMTs, grocery store workers, farmworkers and front-line workers in education and public safety.

There is a limited supply of vaccine. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.

The Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency will provide transportation at no cost for residents needing transportation to and from Palo Verde High School. To request service after the appointment is confirmed, contact the transit agency at 760-922-1140.

“First off, I’d like to thank everyone involved in getting this vaccination clinic for the citizens of Blythe and the Palo Verde Valley,” stated Blythe Mayor Dale Reynolds. “It’s been a long time coming, something our area has needed. I want to thank my fellow councilmembers, Palo Verde Hospital, and the coordination efforts that everyone has put together and discussed. Special thank you to the county public health and emergency management departments for their efforts in getting this clinic in Blythe. We look forward to seeing Public Health and the mobile vaccination clinic in Blythe this week!”

There are two vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for COVID-19: Pfizer and Moderna. The vaccine is safe and offers a 95 percent level of protection for COVID‑19. There has not been a vaccine approved for use by minors at this time.

It is important to continue following the public health requirements of washing your hands frequently, wearing your mask when you are in public, using hand sanitizer, keeping six feet of distance from others and avoid gathering with anyone not in your home.
