Riverside County Funds Temporary Restrooms in Idyllwild while Permanent Facility is Built

IDYLLWILD – Restrooms at The Fort, a two-story shopping center in the middle of Idyllwild at 54225 N Circle Drive, are now back open to the public while Riverside County works to complete a permanent restroom facility in Idyllwild’s downtown.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors today approved funding to work with this local business center that will operate and maintain these restrooms in the short term until the new restroom is completed, which is expected by the end of the year.
The need for temporary restrooms came as a concern and request from the community. Supervisor V. Manuel Perez took on the issue, working alongside county departments, the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health and the Riverside County Office of Economic Development, to find a solution.
“We know that there are quite a bit of tourists who visit Idyllwild,” said Supervisor Perez. “While we have a brand new public restroom coming in, which will be very helpful for the town and comes after many years in the making, we also wanted to see how we could address a short-term situation where there had been no or very limited public restrooms available in the meantime. I appreciate our county team for working on this after our listening session in Idyllwild and making this a win for the community.”
Funding for the temporary restrooms is estimated at $25,000, and will be provided through American Rescue Plan Act funds that Riverside County received to support economic recovery efforts. The funding will help support the small businesses that rely on tourism and support jobs in the community, and provide for an important necessity so visitors have a positive experience in the community and encourage return visits.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez represents the Fourth Supervisorial District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. The largest district in the county by geography, the 4th District covers eastern Riverside County, from Whitewater, stretching across the entire Coachella Valley south to the Salton Sea, up Highway 74 to Idyllwild and the mountain communities, and heading east of the Coachella Valley to Blythe and the Colorado River.
