Riverside County Holds Next Oasis Mobile Home Park Community Meeting July 27

OASIS – Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and Riverside County agencies invite residents of Oasis Mobile Home Park and members of the community to the next community meeting, to be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, to discuss efforts, utilizing a $30 million state grant, to provide relocation assistance to families to improve their living conditions.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. July 27 at Desert Mirage High School, located at 86-150 Avenue 66, Thermal, CA  92274. The meeting will be conducted in Spanish and a dinner will be provided.

“Riverside County, thanks to $30 million in funding secured by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, is helping families at Oasis Mobile Home Park move out of hazardous conditions,” said Supervisor Perez. “This is a process that will take time. The county and our housing staff are working with state and federal agencies, the residents of Oasis Mobile Home Park and community organizations to develop options for relocation and projects in the process to create more housing opportunities.”

Last year, Assemblymember Garcia, through his efforts with the state budget, secured a ground‑breaking allocation of $30 million to provide relocation assistance to residents at Oasis Mobile Home Park, which has been plagued with issues of unsafe levels of arsenic contamination in the water, unsafe sanitation systems and other serious hazardous living conditions.

In October 2021, Riverside County was designated by the California Department of Housing and Community Development to administer these funds for Oasis Mobile Home Park relocation.

Supervisor Perez held an initial community meeting in November 2021, attended by an estimated 150 people including representatives of county, state and federal agencies. Housing officials made a presentation that detailed current occupancy numbers at Oasis Mobile Home Park (over 200 families, nearly 1,100 individuals), identified short-term and long-term strategies for assisting the residents, and outlined next steps that included hiring Overland Pacific and Cutter to interview families to compile information to help with the process. A message Supervisor Perez heard in his conversations with residents was that struggling families want to move out of Oasis Mobile Home Park and they want a better quality of life.

The upcoming community meeting will update residents on the relocation process, availability of housing resources, and plans for constructing new housing that can provide options for relocation.

This meeting was previously announced for July 20. July 27 is the new date of the meeting.

To date, 40 families have been relocated to Mountain View Estates in Oasis into newly constructed homes built with state Project Homekey funding and county funds from the federal CARES Act.
